The other data collection component of ESALPS is ESATCP. It collects network data from any IP addressed Network server. ESATCP also collects host data from Linux, NT, SUN, HP and other servers. This data is put into the z/VM monitor facility allowing ESAMON to process the host data from Linux concurrently with the VM data and correct the data real time. This is the architecture required to provide accurate processor reporting for Linux under z/VM.
With the advantage of alternative data acquisition over other performance monitors, ESALPS can also collect data from Storage servers. Installations looking at using fiber connected storage should consider how the storage performance can be synchronized with z/VM performance. ESALPS has this ability as proven.
