As the world moves from proprietary SNA networks to more open, standard and inexpensive TCP/IP networks, sites are discovering a lack of management tools for this new environment. Now Velocity Software offers ESATCP, a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) client that runs on VM/ESA and measures the performance of TCP/IP running almost anywhere.
ESATCP runs in a service machine that writes TCP/IP performance data to the standard VM monitor data stream, which is then processed by ESAMON and ESAMAP.
It measures the performance of any SNMP-compliant TCP/IP network, including z/OS (MVS), z/VM, Windows, Sun, Linux, and most Unix-based networks. To manage multiple TCP/IP networks, parameters are supplied to ESATCP that define the various IP addresses. Physical network connections are also required, either via corporate intranets or over the Internet, as well as security authorizations on the server.
ESATCP collects information such as connection service times, client performance data, application performance data, and many data points from the four different layers of the TCP/IP (physical, transport, internet, and application).
ESATCP requires either ESAMAP or ESAMON.
