IBM Redbooks consistently use ESALPS for their performance measurements. The example here is from the Domino 6.5 for Linux Redbook. The three servers used for measuring different loads were defined twice. The servers LINUXA, LINUXB, and LINUXC were defined as virtual machines and "corrected". It should be obvious that there is no consistency between how linux measures it's CPU under VM and reality.
